Honesty is Key

The person or organisation sharing your story should be open and honest with you. You have the right to know exactly how your story and photos will be used. They should be transparent about their plans for your story and photos. If they are not being clear, ask questions until you understand.

  • Clear information. Always ask where your photo will be used, who will see it, and why it is being taken.

  • Get it in writing. Request a written consent form in your language, and keep a copy for yourself.

  • Check consistency. Make sure what is promised to you matches what actually happens.

  • No use without consent. Your photo can only be used if you clearly agree to specific terms.

  • Change your mind. If important information was hidden or you misunderstood, you can withdraw your consent.

  • Get a contact. Always ask for the name and contact details of the person responsible so you can follow up later if needed.
